From personally redefining what's possible in maxed out life threatening surf, to leading a generation of freakishly high performance Surfing, Albee Layer is a world class athlete with a lifetime of firsthand experience in extreme outdoor elements. Most importantly, he’s a good friend. It’s a huge honor to welcome Albee to the ANETIK fam where he’ll continue to provide valuable insight toward ANETIK product design, testing, and constant innovation alongside the rest of our rule breaking friends around the world.
When everything goes sideways in your world, what does "comfort in the chaos" actually look like for you?
Comfort in chaos to me looks like going to surf my favorite (somewhat) secret spot completely alone, no filmer no spectator no one around and some slightly sketchy wave
What's the gnarliest day you've ever had in your element, and how did it change the way you operate now?
Gnarliest day was end of 2024 out at jaws. The waves were bigger than I’ve ever seen and more water moving than I’ve ever seen. It just shifted where the final goal is for me at that particular wave.
What do you chase more: the perfect result or the feeling you get getting there—and why?
I think I just chase the very age of what’s possible, why? Im not to sure. Someone’s gotta figure out what’s possible right? Just because.
What's one non‑negotiable ritual or mindset you rely on before you step into high‑pressure conditions?
I accept everything that could happen to me and put it out of my mind so that space in my head is freed up to think about what is happening
What's a small thing that instantly flips your switch—pet peeve, superstition, or ridiculous habit your crew loves to clown you for?
I have too many pet peeves to count haha
